North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&T) possesses extensive expertise in applying autonomy to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) integration into the national airspace. NCA&T partners with federal agencies and industry leaders on both fundamental and applied research to advance technologies that support the safe and efficient operation of UAS and UAM. The university also brings significant expertise in enabling technologies such as testing and evaluation, command, control, and communications (C3), as well as sensing and perception for UAS. NCA&T researchers also explore a wide range of applications, including air traffic management, bridge inspection, flood monitoring, smart agriculture, remote sensing, and UAS-enabled battlefield management, among others.
The university offers a broad range of capabilities, including flight simulation, indoor flight testing, and access to an outdoor flight facility. Key research facilities include the ACCESS Laboratory, Safe and Secure Assured Autonomy Center, ACIT Institute, UAS for Bridge Inspection, UAS Center of Excellence, and Remote Sensing and Geospatial Science Research Laboratory.
A detailed UAS and UAM capability statement, along with examples of past projects, is available here.
